What are the Features of a Column Graph?

The features of a column graph include:

  • a title
  • a labelled y-axis (the units being measured)
  • a labelled x-axis (the categories of data collected)
  • a scale
  • columns.

This teaching presentation, steps through the process of displaying data using a column graph. Students will learn what each part of the column graph represents and then will work as a class to step through the process of creating their own.

It is suggested that you draw the column graph on a whiteboard/document camera while stepping through the presentation so that students see the process of constructing the column graph.

Through this activity, students will learn how to create displays using simple column graphs.
