Strengthen Word Recognition and Fluency with Reader’s Theatre

Reader’s theatre is an engaging literacy approach where students perform a script by reading their parts aloud. Because the lines don’t need to be memorised, students can concentrate on reading accurately, using expression and developing confidence as fluent readers. Combining elements of performance with reading practice encourages collaboration, improves comprehension and makes literacy learning fun.

To make it easy to bring reader’s theatre into your classroom, the Teach Starter team has developed a collection of ten readers theatre scripts ideal for Year 5 and Year 6 students. Each script is around two-and-a-half pages long and includes a different number of character roles (four or five parts) so you can choose scripts that best fit your group size. Each one also includes a Flesch–Kincaid reading level, helping teachers to match scripts to student abilities for effective differentiation.

The scripts feature fun scenarios, from championship tennis matching to glitzt awards ceremonies, that will engage and entertain your students as they read. The scripts featured in this pack are:
