Spin Your Strategy!

Are you looking for a fun activity to help your students practice addition strategies, but worksheets just aren’t cutting it? This ‘Strategy Spin’ activity is an excellent way for your students to practice two-digit addition, all while practicing the following addition strategies:

  • Compensation Strategy
  • Jump Strategy
  • Break Apart Strategy
  • 100s Chart Strategy

How to Play

  1. Place the addition cards face down.
  2. Students pick up an addition equation from the pile and then spin the spinner to reveal the addition strategy they must use to solve the problem.
  3. Students solve the problem using that addition strategy.
  4. You can have manipulatives, printed number lines, hundreds charts etc to assist with their work.
  5. Students check their answers using the provided answer sheet.
