Teaching Resource
Area And Perimeter Task Cards
A set of 10 area and perimeter task cards.
Use this resource when learning to differentiate between and solve perimeter and area word problems.
Print the task cards out on cardstock at full-size or print multiple pages per sheet to create pocket-size task cards. Then put them on a binder ring for easy access to grab and go in the classroom or in math centers.
These work great as a whole class warm-up, while working with your guided math group on area or perimeter, or as a math center activity for students to work on in pairs.
We have also created a set that includes measurement conversions within the word problems making it easy to differentiate for your students. Use the drop-down menu if you would like to download this version.
An answer sheet has been included with each download.

- CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.C.7.A
Find the area of a rectangle with whole-number side lengths by tiling it, and show that the area is the same as would be found by multiplying the side lengths.
- CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.C.7.B
Multiply side lengths to find areas of rectangles with whole-number side lengths in the context of solving real world and mathematical problems, and represent whole-number products as rectangular areas in mathematical reasoning.
- CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.C.7.D
Recognize area as additive. Find areas of rectilinear figures by decomposing them into non-overlapping rectangles and adding the areas of the non-overlapping parts, applying this technique to solve real world problems.
- CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.3.MD.D.8
Solve real world and mathematical problems involving perimeters of polygons, including finding the perimeter given the side lengths, finding an unknown side length, and exhibiting rectangles with the same perimeter and different areas or with the sam...
- CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.A.1
Know relative sizes of measurement units within one system of units including km, m, cm; kg, g; lb, oz.; l, ml; hr, min, sec. Within a single system of measurement, express measurements in a larger unit in terms of a smaller unit. Record measurement ...
- CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.4.MD.A.2
Use the four operations to solve word problems involving distances, intervals of time, liquid volumes, masses of objects, and money, including problems involving simple fractions or decimals, and problems that require expressing measurements given in...
- CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.5.MD.A.1
Convert among different-sized standard measurement units within a given measurement system (e.g., convert 5 cm to 0.05 m), and use these conversions in solving multi-step, real world problems.
