Build multiplication practice into your math lessons with this engaging work mat and task card resource designed to help students explore multiplication through multiple representations.
Multiplication Practice That Strengthens Math Skills
Developing multiplication fluency requires more than memorizing facts. Students benefit from seeing and representing multiplication in different ways to build a deeper understanding of mathematical relationships.
This multiplication practice resource helps students explore multiplication through equal groups, repeated addition, skip counting, fact families, and multiplication arrays. Students select a task card and complete a work mat by modeling the multiplication fact using multiple strategies.
The resource includes multiplication work mats and task cards featuring multiplication equations, skip-counting patterns, repeated addition problems, array activities, and fact family practice. As students work through the tasks, they build fluency while making meaningful connections between multiplication strategies.
Once students complete these activities, they will be better equipped to represent, explain, and solve multiplication problems with confidence.
Multiplication Arrays Activities for the Classroom
This resource can be used in a variety of ways to reinforce multiplication concepts and encourage mathematical thinking.
- Array Gallery Walk: Have students complete different task cards and display their work mats around the room. Students can compare multiplication arrays and discuss different strategies.
- Math Detective Challenge: Present a completed work mat and challenge students to identify the original multiplication fact using clues from the representations shown.\
- Hands-On Build-It Station: Provide counters or cubes for students to create physical multiplication arrays that match the facts on their task cards.
Because students represent multiplication in multiple ways, this resource works well for review, intervention, and skill reinforcement.
