Explore Life on the Road With Our Opinion Writing Worksheets

Looking for a flexible, engaging way to teach opinion writing? These opinion writing worksheets guide students through the writing process using the high-interest topic of life on the road!

Students begin by weighing the pros and cons of a mobile lifestyle using a T-chart (with a lined version included for developing writers), then organise their thoughts with a clear, structured graphic organiser. Students use this organiser to produce the final product – a well-supported opinion piece where students take a stand and explain their reasoning. Perfect to introduce this genre of writing and easy to adapt and edit for any opinion writing topic!

Using This Opinion Writing Template

This opinion writing template is easy to use and edit! Here is a handy guide to get you started:

Preparation

  • Choose between the standard T-chart (Worksheet 1) or the lined version (Worksheet 2) based on student needs or levels.
  • Print copies of the worksheets needed for each student, or upload them to your digital classroom platform (Google Classroom, Seesaw, etc.).

Introduce the Topic

  • Start with a brief class discussion, story or video about life on the road to activate prior knowledge and spark interest.
  • Brainstorm as a class what this lifestyle might include (e.g., travel, independence, limited space, lack of routine).

Worksheet 1: Pros and Cons T-Chart

  • Students list the advantages and disadvantages of living a mobile lifestyle.

Worksheet 2: Opinion Writing Organiser

  • Students decide on their personal opinion: Would they enjoy life on the road?
  • They fill in:
    • Introduction: State their opinion clearly.
    • Body: Three reasons with supporting details.
    • Conclusion: Restate opinion and wrap up.

Drafting the Essay

  • Students use their completed graphic organisers to write a short opinion essay on their own paper.

Extension Ideas

  • Debate or Class Discussion: Divide students into pro/con groups and host a friendly debate before writing.
  • Compare with Another Lifestyle: Have students write about city life vs. road life.
  • Digital Publishing: Let students type and decorate their essays for a classroom blog or display.
