What Is Remembrance Day?
Remembrance Day is a day of commemoration when we remember those who served and died in the First World War (1914-1918). It is observed in Australia and other allied nations like New Zealand, Canada and the United States, although is called Armistice Day or Veterans Day in some countries.
Remembrance Day activities help young students to understand the solemnity of the day itself and commend the bravery of soldiers, medics and others who served in WW1 as well as those who have fought and died in wars since.
When Is Remembrance Day 2025?
Remembrance Day is a holiday that does not change from year to year. It's always commemorated on the 11th of November, which means it will be 11 November 2025.
On the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month, a minute’s silence is observed and dedicated to those soldiers who died fighting to protect our nation.
Remembrance Day is not a public holiday, and 11 November is a Tuesday in 2025, which means school may be open that day.

What to Do on Remembrance Day With Students
Are you looking for fresh ways to spark students' civic engagement on the day of the event?
Maybe your school plans to hold a Remembrance Day ceremony, with representatives from the defence community, community leaders and local politicians invited to participate. You can ask if your class would be able to present a wreath during such ceremonies.

Symbols play a big role in Remembrance Day activities and crafts as we help students reflect on the sacrifices made to protect our country. Red poppies feature prominently as the international emblem of remembrance, and you may want to discuss the symbolism of this flower as part of your lessons.
Our collection of Remembrance Day activities also contains poems, posters, wreath templates and historical information to support your teaching in the days leading up to this important day.
