A Vocabulary Word Game That Remixes Words With Prefixes

Boost vocabulary skills with a fun and interactive vocabulary word game that gets students thinking about how word parts change meaning! Understanding prefixes is a key skill for building strong reading and writing foundations, and this engaging resource makes learning them exciting. By remixing base words with different prefixes, students will develop a deeper understanding of how these word parts work, helping them decode unfamiliar words and expand their vocabularies.

Start Growing Readers with a Prefix Game

Vocabulary is critical for students to become stronger readers. That’s why it is so important to give them plenty of practice and plenty of fun! Using a prefix game like this one can help your students be more engaged and retain more of their learning in the classroom.

In this prefix game, players will practise adding common prefixes to words. They will choose a card and read the word. They’ll then identify a matching prefix for the word on the game board and cover it with one of their manipulatives. The player who connects four squares in a row first is the winner!

Students will be working with the following affixes:

  • un-
  • re-
  • mis-
  • de-
