Jill: Need a little motivation on a Monday? Hi, I’m Jill.

Bron: And I’m Bron.

Jill: And we’re experienced primary school teachers. We get it. Join us for inspiration and encouragement to get you buzzing through the school week. This is The Buzz.

Jill: Hi everyone. I’m Jill. Welcome to this week’s edition of The Buzz. Hi Bron.

Bron: Hey Jill. How’s it going?

Jill: Good. How are you?

Bron: Yeah, good.

Jill: It’s Monday.

Bron: It’s Monday.

Jill: Again.

Bron: Yep.

Jill: Well, all right, we were thinking. Okay. Sometimes maybe as you’re getting towards the end of term, it could be that week eight, week nine, things are getting a bit trickier and that maybe you’re feeling a bit tired, getting out of bed might be a bit harder.

Bron: Fatigue.

Jill: The alarm goes off and you’re a bit like, “Not today.”

Bron: Ten minute snooze button.

Jill: That’s right. We were thinking. What if we spice things up a bit by having Work It Wednesday.

Bron: Work it girl.

Jill: Work It Wednesday. Wear something fabulous. What do you think?

Bron: Well look, I love it. And when I say, “Work it girl,” I mean work it boys and girls because this is for all teachers. And we’re going to challenge you to wear something a little bit quirky or a little bit unusual that just shows all your kids your personality. And let it shine through.

Jill: Yeah, a bit fun.

Bron: Make it fun and you know it’s a bit of fun setting it up the night before, getting ready. It’ll motivate you to get up in the morning if you’ve already decided on your little outfit. It could be a fabulous skirt with a gorgeous print on it like a teaching inspired print.

Jill: Have you seen those ones that are out and they’ve got like The Very Hungry Caterpillar?

Bron: I’ve got one.

Jill: You do?

Bron: I do.

Jill: Bron.

Bron: I know.

Jill: Why have I never seen this?

Bron: I’m wearing it next Work It Wednesday and I will put a picture on Instagram just to prove it.

Jill: Where did you get that?

Bron: Oh, Instagram. Instagram love. A teacher, actually a Brisbane teacher, Julia makes them.

Jill: Really?

Bron: Yes.

Jill: Well here I am thinking I’m going to introduce you to something that, this is really cool, The Very Hungry Caterpillar. And you’re like, “I got one.” Oh, okay thanks Bron.

Bron: Actually I’ve got two because I’ve got my own and I’ve got a mini me one for my daughter. She wears it to kindy. She calls it her rainbow skirt and it’s her favorite book so it’s perfect.

Jill: That’s really cute.

Bron: Yeah, wear a skirt that’s inspired by a storybook, wear a fabulous pair of earrings. There are so many amazing teacher earring companies on Instagram.

Jill: That’s huge at the moment. I’ve even seen people who are getting ones made to suit their classroom theme.

Bron: Yes.

Jill: It might be like flamingos or cactus or I’ve seen some little donut ones.

Bron: Oh, “Donut worry, be happy”.

Jill: Or hot cross buns for Easter. All sorts of things. Yeah, it’s cool.

Bron: There is so much talent. The handmade community on Instagram is so talented and you can be such an individual because often these things are made to order or one of a kinds and just letting your personality shine through your wardrobe. It doesn’t have to be something expensive. It can just be something that hasn’t cost you much at all. Actually, speaking of which, Jill you’ve got a top secret for purchasing amazing outfits. Are you happy to share it?

Jill: I was telling Bron this morning about my best ever purchase and I went op shopping because I love op shopping and I got a pair of Marcs brand. You know the on e, they’re like at David Jones?

Bron: Yes.

Jill: For $9.

Bron: No way, $9. And they look amazing.

Jill: And they were brand new. Yeah, I’m wearing … I wear them everywhere. I honestly, I wear them everywhere at the moment.

Bron: Well, there you go.

Jill: They were brand new because the pocket hadn’t even been … You know how you get the pocket sewn? It wasn’t cut. And I was like, “These are new. Oh my gosh.”

Bron: That’s a thrill actually. When you go op shopping and find something that’s designer and it’s nine bucks.

Jill: Yeah. Oh I get where you took that, that’s the highlight of my year so far and I’ve got two children. You’d think that that would be, they would have done something.

Bron: Someone learned to walk this year Jill.

Jill: Close but these were $9 so I’m not quite sure. My kids are going to have to do some serious work to catch up with this.

Bron: And teachers, you guys are often on a pretty tight budget so op shop is an amazing place. And op shops have great earrings. If you’re into that.

Jill: Yeah, definitely. But also the kids love it. When we would go, wearing something … My best friend and I taught next to each other for many years and say we were going to be a little bit silly and wear the same thing or just be something really bright for the day and we’d walk out when they’re all sitting out in front and waiting to come into class, we’d walk out together and they’d be like, “Can you see what they’re wearing?” And then like fits of giggles.

Bron: It’s so cute isn’t it?

Jill: Yeah, they love it. They love that kind of thing.

Bron: Yeah, they really do.

Jill: Yeah. They get into it too.

Bron: Yeah, for sure. Actually one of our colleagues was telling me the other day, we were talking about NAPLAN stress and how it can be a little bit stressful on them, especially the threes when they’re sitting their first testing, and she said like, “You know how all of your classroom resources have to be put down so there’s no writing on any walls and no literacy prompts or anything.” The kids can feel a little bit lost when they walk into their classroom and it looks unrecognisable.

Jill: So different.

Bron: Yeah. She said what she did on NAPLAN day, the first day of NAPLAN, was wore this insane hat because she was quirky and that was her style. And the kids came in, looked around and thought, “Yeah, this isn’t right,” but then they found their teacher at the front of the room wearing this crazy hat and they were like, “Oh, yeah, same.”

Jill: Oh, that’s really cute.

Bron: Yeah. I belong here. She’s here for me. And I just loved that. Like I thought, “You can really inject your personality and some happiness by what you wear.”

Jill: Yeah. Oh definitely. No, we’re going to do Work It Wednesday.

Bron: It’s happening. It is happening.

Jill: Yes. Maybe if you need to in the morning put a bit of music on like that, I’m a Model, the Right Said Fred, that one. Play that. Strut around in whatever you’re wearing and can they hashtag?

Bron: Yes please.

Jill: You know about this. Instagram.

Bron: We would love to see this on Instagram. If you do decide to work it on a Wednesday don’t forget to #workitwednesday, all one word, all lower case and we are going to be fishing through those on Instagram like crazy and re-sharing your amazing outfits so don’t forget to do that on a Wednesday, #workitwednesday, for Teach Starter. Yeah, we can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Jill: Yeah, oh gosh, now I’ve got to think what I’m going to wear on Wednesday. Can I wear these $9 Marcs pants?

Bron: I think you can work it in those.

Jill: You’ll see me again in these tomorrow. Don’t worry about it.

Bron: Mix and match. They’re very versatile.

Jill: That’s right.

Bron: Well have a great week teachers. See you next week.

Jill: Bye.

Jill: Thanks for joining us for another episode of The Buzz by Teach Starter. We look forward to bringing you next week’s dose of teacher inspo. Until then, just remember, you’ve got this.
