Practice long division with whole numbers and decimals with this differentiated activity.
Long Division with 2-Digit Divisors
Are you looking for a long division activity suitable for many levels? With this downloadable resource, students will have fun solving problems that involve dividing by 2-digit divisors. There are three different levels, each noted with a different color.
⭐ Red Set: 2-digit divisors, whole-number quotients, no remainders
⭐ Purple Set: 2-digit divisors, quotients may contain remainders
⭐ Green Set: 2-digit divisors, quotients may contain decimals
Before your students begin, decide which color-coded set best suits their learning needs. Each set contains ten cards designed to be used in full, as each card features an answer to the previous problem and a new question to solve.
Once you’ve chosen your set, hang all ten pages around the room randomly to create a fun, movement-based learning experience. Provide each student with the matching color-coded recording sheet to complete as they work through the problems.
Students begin at any card in their set and solve the division problem shown. Next, they search the room for the card displaying their quotient. When they find it, they solve the new division problem on that page and continue the process—solving and searching—until they return to the card where they started.
This activity is self-checking: if students can’t find their quotient on any of their color-coded cards, they’ll know their answer was incorrect and can revisit their work to find the correct solution.
Get Students Moving with This Self-Checking Division Activity
This engaging division activity gets students up and moving as they practice solving division problems. Instead of staying seated to complete a worksheet, students are actively involved—circulating around the room, solving problems, and checking their own answers as they go. The self-checking design gives students immediate feedback, encouraging them to take ownership of their learning and correct mistakes in real time. From a teacher’s perspective, this built-in feedback loop keeps students motivated, reduces grading time, and makes it easy to see who is confidently applying the skill and who may need additional support.
