• Multi-step word problems require comprehension! Students have to understand the problem statement, find relevant information, and figure out the right operation to solve the problem. Some students really struggle with comprehending the problem or may get overwhelmed by the amount of information presented.
• Problem-solving skills need some work! Multi-step word problems involve many steps and multiple operations. Students have to first identify, then apply the appropriate operations, use mathematical reasoning, and arrive at the final answer. Weak problem-solving skills can make it challenging for students to break down the problem into smaller, manageable steps.
